Got to chat with the owner for like a second. He just told me it was a '53 and fun to drive. I was surprised it was only a 53' seemed like a car from the 30's or 40's at first glance.

Yeah, I always have trouble identifying cars made before around 1960.

MGs have always been spectacularly old-fashioned though.

technically, it was a car from the 30's, the first MG T series midget was built in 1936.

It was probably a VW based kit car.

2nd'ed being from the Glen region where these WERE the most popular race cars available when racing picked up again after WWII (or anywhere) so being its a '53 it's probably an MG T-D. makes sense because no one was making cars or had new car plans during or shortly after the war. Peter Argetsinger-Son of Watkins Glen Creator Cam Argetsinger (+ racing driver and coach himself) just restored his father's T type in its original british racing green. You could say its a big reason why the Glen exists. I'm sure you got the idea from its size that these could be tossed about quite easily. Great documentary on all of that. I actually have a book I stole (or never gave back) from the library entitled "The Modern Sports Car" from 1953 and it talks about these cars as the affordable gentleman's sports car standard, Shows pictures of the Corvette still as a prototype and the jaguar Series 1 & 2's as having serious potential AND a photo of Boris Said's grandfather as a young racer!

oh it's definitely a TD, the only other 53's were the TF's and they had the headlights mounted on the fenders. and nothing previous to the TD was built in LHD.
That sounds like a great book, I can totally understand why you haven't returned it yet.
